| Resources | ICMA Opportunities Posted by Nat Tupper - March 6, 2008 To: All ICMA Members on the MTCMA Listserv Fr: Nat Tupper, MTCMA President Re: ICMA Leadership Opportunities Dt: March 6, 2008 There are two opportunities to be involved in ICMA leadership that have recently come to my attention. First: The Maine Town and City Management Association is invited to appoint from amongst its members an ICMA member who would like to serve on the 2009 Annual Conference Planning Committee. The Committee will be planning ICMA's 95 th Annual Conference, which will be held in Montréal, Québec, Canada, September 13-16, 2009. Each state association is asked to identify one ICMA member as its official representative to the Planning Committee. ICMA's President-Elect will also appoint at-large representatives to insure that small communities, councils of governments, counties, women, minorities, and international members are adequately represented. MTCMA needs to submit our choice by May 15, so please reply directly to me ( ntupper@yarmouth.me.us ) or at the address or phone numbers below) by March 25. An orientation meeting for the 2009 Conference Planning Committee will take place during the 2008 conference in Richmond, Virginia. The main meeting of the committee will take place in Montréal in November 2008. Travel and lodging costs are the responsibility of each Planning Committee member. While attendance is not necessary in order to serve on the committee (each committee member will be sent details about the meeting and background information to review), ICMA does encourage all members to attend. Second: Each of the five ICMA U.S. regions has three Vice-Presidents, one of whom must be an Assistant Manager or hold another non-CEO position. The non-CEO Vice President positions are turning over in the Northeast and the Southeast regions for the 2009-2010 ICMA Board terms. Maine may not have a lot of ICMA members who fit this description, but we do have some and I hope one or more of you may be interested in serving on the ICMA Executive Committee. These nominations must be submitted by July 3, so please let me know if you would like to be considered by April 25. The MTCMA Executive Committee has recently endorsed a new nominating process recommended by a task force of ICMA members, so that procedure will be followed in the event that more than one candidate from Maine seeks the ICMA nomination. The March 3 ICMA newsletter has an announcement of the position availability and details on the ICMA process. ICMA has provided me with some written materials on the expectations on Board members which I have attached for you to review. If you know any ICMA members who are not on the MTCMA Listserv, please forward this message to them. |
