NE Regional Summit Update

and

Call for Candidates - NE Vice President Position on the ICMA Executive Board

March 11, 2008

Dear ICMA Members in the Northeast Region:

Summit Update:   The ICMA Executive Board vice presidents look forward to welcoming you to this year's NE Regional Summit in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on April 3 - 4 .  The good news is we will have an excellent turnout this year. The challenging news is that our original room block with the Hyatt at the $119 rate sold out by late February. We apologize for this inconvenience and want to let you know that we were able to negotiate additional rooms on Thursday night at a rate of $189; please request this rate if you have not yet made your reservation.

Call for Candidates - NE Region:   This message also serves to remind you that ICMA is seeking candidates interested in serving a three-year term on the ICMA Executive Board to begin in the fall of 2009. Every year, candidates are sought from each region.  All ICMA regions are represented by three Vice-Presidents -- two CAOs and one non-CAO. I currently serve in one of the CAO positions. Kay James, assistant city manager of Canandaigua , New York , serves in the non-CAO vice-president position, and Scott Hancock, assistant city manager of Canandaigua , New York , serves in the other CAO position.

In the Northeast, the non-CAO positions is open for nominations for a term that will begin at the Montreal conference in 2009, and end at the Phoenix/Maricopa County, Arizona conference in October of 2012. According to the Northeast Protocol, this year, candidates can come from any state in the Northeast Region.

We strongly encourage all eligible candidates to consider placing their names forward. We have found serving on the ICMA Executive Board to be a challenging, rewarding, and fun time. It is a great experience and we would be happy to discuss the obligations and responsibilities with any interested candidate.

Included with this e-mail is an outline of the important dates to consider if you are interested. We also encourage interested candidates to talk to their state association leadership.

Mel, Kay, and I would be happy to speak with any interested candidates about the process and/or the duties of board members. Please feel free to contact any of us with your questions.

Sincerely,

Mel Kleckner, Town Manager
